  • Maximizing LTE Benefits Using True Carrier Ethernet Backhaul
Mobile Network Operators are evolving their wireless infrastructure to the Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard that offers low latency and high bandwidth to deliver rich content to smart mobile devices. This paper articulates the challenges and complexities in LTE design with the recommendation to use Carrier Ethernet-based solutions for backhaul from cell sites to reduce TCO. Backhaul providers can use this approach to scale their networks cost-effectively. Finally, this paper describes Ciena's solution, which combines True Carrier Ethernet-based cell site demarcation with converged optical Ethernet aggregation to build scalable cost-effective networks.
  • …captured at the endpoints of the backhaul network, namely at the cell site base stations (LTE eNodeB) and the server gateways (MME/S-GW) the question that operators ask themselves is, “does it save time and complexity to extend my IP operating paradigm into the backhaul network in-between these endpoints?…
  • With LTE deployments expected to go from a trickle to a flood over the next few years, solving the mobile backhaul bandwidth crunch is on wireless operators’ minds more than ever before.   With LTE networks enabling data streams and capacities that have never been possible before to a growing…
  • …while 4G mobile technologies like LTE may promise to quench the bandwidth demands of smartphone users, it isn?t going to solve the wireless backhaul challenge for service providers.    "As we look towards the future, what we see is that this [wireless backhaul challenge] is not going to get any…
  • Infonetics White Paper: Using Carrier Ethernet to Backhaul LTE
LTE will become the single mobile network for mobile phone and mobile broadband, adopted by most of the world in the next five to ten years. Mobile operators and backhaul transport providers are adopting IP/Ethernet backhaul as the default technology choice to cost-effectively scale instead of relying on existing TDM-based transport networks for LTE backhaul. This paper details how Carrier Ethernet solves the challenges of LTE mobile backhaul.
